Exhibition design for "What's Happening?" at The National Gallery of Denmark (SMK).
The exhibition focuses on Danish and international experimental art between 1965 and 1975. A passage of laths and mdf invites visitors inside and displays news from the decade. Showcases are made using the same simple building materials inspired by the fast construction trend of the period. An open and clear layout of the exhibition supports a flat structure. Films which are a recurring element in the exhibition are projected onto hanging screens to achieve a light expression. Wall elements form a background and create rhythm through the space. Three-dimensional works are exhibited behind the walls and two-dimensional works on the permanent walls. A news paper handed out to visitors informs them about the background of the art pieces. The stringent exhibition design aims to set the expressive art pieces and give way to the contemporary viewer.
